At Brant Lake Sports Academy, we promote multi-sport athletes. We know it’s beneficial in so many ways (for more on that, click here). While camp runs in the summer, we decided to check in on our campers and see what they’ve been up to this winter.
Did you know that many of our campers ski and snowboard? Not only does skiing burn major calories, it also strengthens lower body muscles, improves flexibility and engages our core muscles. I mean, let’s get that 6-pack! Skiing also boosts your mood and is great for mental health. I love skiing because it’s a great family activity. It’s a perfect way to spend quality time together in the open air without any screen time!
Although one of our favorite hobby day activities at BLSA is street hockey, ice hockey doesn’t seem to be too popular amongst our campers. I’d say, if you have the time, get on the ice and try it! Hockey improves your cardio, strength, coordination and balance.
Our most popular winter sport by far amongst our campers is basketball. Basketball promotes, speed, power, endurance, agilities and strength. Whether you like to watch the game, play on your varsity team or just get in a friendly pick-up game, you can be sure that basketball is everywhere in the winter months.
As you can see, all of these sports have many things in common, which is why it is so important to try new things and expose yourself to a wide variety of sports. Work on your mental game, as well as your physical one. Compete in fall, winter and spring sports throughout the school year and in the summer, head to Brant Lake for a perfect combination of summer camp adventure and sports-focused FUN!
