From Camper to Counselor
Did you know a handful of Brant Lake Sports Academy counselors were once campers themselves? We recently had a chance to sit down with three of our former campers, Cailey, Anna and Danielle (now counselors) to find out how BLSA has influenced their lives.
Friendships for Life
Cailey: Brant Lake Sports Academy has had an impact on my life outside of camp. I am still so close with, and talk to on a regular basis, all of the friends I have made throughout my 9 years at camp. I met some of the best people in the world.
Anna: I was so sad that my first summer at camp was over, but it was great to reflect on the amazing time I had and how close everyone in the entire camp had become. It was the moment I knew I would be back for many more years to come.
Lessons Learned
mper was so much fun and really taught me to open up, try new things, and meet new people. I had been primarily a basketball player when I went to BLSA but after playing tennis a lot at camp I actually got the confidence to go out for my high school tennis team and ended up playing varsity tennis for 4 years. What was also nice about camp was that although it is structured, it also gave us choices to make on our own decision such as going to arts and crafts or fitness rather than a sport if we wanted.
Connections
Danielle: The best part of being a counselor was getting to know and connecting with all the campers! Even after camp I kept in touch with many of the campers as well as other counselors. It is very rewarding to form a connection with the campers and help them both athletically and personally.
Cailey: The best part about being a counselor is getting close with the campers. My first year as a counselor, the girls that were in my bunk are honestly like little sisters to me. It was just really fun getting to know all the new campers and watching them experience what I got to.
Memories
Anna: I love “Dress Up Your Counselor”! As a camper it was hilarious to dress up our counselors in as ridiculous outfits as possible. Now, it’s even more fun to be on the other side of it and perform in entertaining skits that our creative campers write for us!
Cailey: My favorite BLSA memory was 100% playing in the girls green and gray basketball game. It was the most intense, in my opinion, the girls camp ever was, and it was a lot of fun to be a part of it.
Danielle: Going to the lake in the afternoon, enjoying many different evening activities and participating in Green and Gray makes camp special!
