A Q&A with Liv and Sassy
Who are Liv and Sassy you ask? They are our silly, goofy, hard-working members of BLSA’s Key Staff and their main goal is to make sure our campers have the best possible camp experience.
What is your current role at Brant Lake Sports Academy? Liv: Sass and I work together to make sure that every camper is able to get the full Sports Academy experience and walk away from each summer knowing more about themselves, leaving with new and long last friendships, growth as an athlete, and a little space in their heart for BLSA that will last forever!
What unique trait do you bring to Sports Academy? In other words, where do you shine? Sass: My camp nickname is Sass which I think is a good indication of what I bring to the table! Liv and I love to embrace the camp spirit. We let the coaches lead the daily activities and once all that is done for the day we break in with the bunk games, cupcake wars, lip-sync, and counselor dress up pageant! That is the best part of BLSA – you will get incredible instruction while still getting all the fun benefits of being at camp! We provide the silly, the fun, and the comfy cozy to all things Brant Lake.
Can you reflect on your camper experience?
Sass: As soon as I walked off the bus I was flooded by campers and counselors who were so excited to meet me and welcomed me with open arms. I loved my first summer so much, that even though I was only supposed to stay for 3 weeks, I ended up staying longer! My second summer gave me the opportunity to pay it forward by welcoming the new campers off the bus on their very first day and help them feel comfortable. I knew I’d be back as a counselor – a place I have grown to call not only home, but my happy place. Brant Lake is a unique experience for campers for many reasons. The specialization makes it easier to connect with fellow campers because we already have sports in common, the camp is smaller than traditional camps, which allows for close personal relationships to form between campers of all ages, and Brant Lake is place that even if you are coming from a previous camp or coming for the first time, the atmosphere is one of love, friendship, and lip sync battles! The two of you are such good friends but, you are not the same age. Have you always been friends?
Liv: Age is just a number! Sassy and I really are so lucky to have each other not only as best friends but as co-workers! From the day Sassy and I met, I knew we would be forever friends. We really do finish each other’s sentences and I seriously could not see my life without my sassy girl in it!What would your camper self-tell you today? Liv: My camper self would tell myself today a few things…
Be proud of yourself for what you have accomplished. Keep being grateful, thankful, happy, and positive! And thank your parents for sending you to BLSA!
